Location

Salerno is located along the Southern coast of the Tirrenean Sea, 50 km South of Naples (map). Salerno is a fascinating example of what the Mediterranean has to offer all those who wish to have a closer knowledge of it. The town presents itself as a friendly community to visitors and tourists from all over the world.

Ancient monuments and churches testify the role of the city along the centuries, and there are plenty of artistic, cultural and recreational activities held in the city parks and gardens, as well as in the main streets and squares downtown.

At night, bars, cafes and pubs located along the lungomare offer outdoor seats, indoor tables and lot of music, performed live during week-ends. Those are the places for “la movida”, the up-down strolling looking for friends and acquaintance.

Salerno is at the beginning of the Costiera Amalfitana (Amalfitana Drive), one of the most beautiful shoreline of the world. Along the Amalfitana Drive there are Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Sorrento, small villages located on the cliffs just in front of the sea. Most of them can be reached by hydrofoil or ferry from Salerno. The breathtaking beauties of the Capri Island can be reached by hydrofoil or ferry directly from Salerno.

In the surrounding area there are world-renowed archeological sites (Pompei, Ercolano, Paestum) and the Vesuvio, the still active volcano that in 79 A.C. destroyed Pompei and Ercolano. A unique location for its blend of history, archaeology and geology is the Phlegreaen Fields, an area north of Naples made up by approximatively 40 ancient volcanoes. The Solfatara of Pozzuoli is without a doubt the most interesting volcano of the Phlegreaen Fields. In its environs there are places of incredible historical interest, all of them more than 2,000 years old, such as the Flavio Amphitheatre, the Acropolis of Cuma, the Thermae of Baia, the Temple of Serapides.
